After a week in Gori I really got a feel for what was bad and what was good. For example KE&RA was terrible, while Resto-Bar Black Star was fabulous.
So, why so good and why indeed the best BBQ restaurant in Gori? Well the location is wonderful, the service is top notch, they actually take cards and you know the BBQ is pretty good.

What is the Resto-Bar Black Star?
Resto-Bar Black Star is one of the better established restaurants in Gori, located right in the heart of the city near the main Stalin Avenue area. Unlike many smaller Georgian restaurants that focus purely on local dishes, Black Star has gone for a broader restaurant concept, combining a traditional Georgian menu with a dedicated BBQ section and a proper drinks selection.
The restaurant is privately owned and has become popular with both locals and visitors because it offers something that is still surprisingly rare in smaller Georgian cities: a full service restaurant experience. With its outdoor seating area, central location and views towards Gori Fortress. Scores generally well on review sites and honestly we can see why!

The Menu and the food at Resto-Bar Black Star
The food and drink menu here is epic and incredibly well priced. Food wise there is basically the BBQ list which has lots of meat and fish for the most part on a stick. Then they’ve got the more traditional Georgian menu which again is thorough and all extremely well priced. This includes all the classics, such as good breads and the like.
Drinks wise this place is also epic, with a massive wine list that yes has Stalin wine on it. Also lots of draft beers, vodka and juices to wash it down with.

Service, taste and ambience at Resto-Bar Black Star
It’s a nice open garden with some terraces, all of which overlook Gori Fortress. And honestly, of a night time this whole thing just looks fabulous. This helps when it comes to service, which if I am honest was a little slow. Still, the server made up for it with a great attitude and overall we were happy.
Food wise I have to say that for the most part it was excellent. I did find some of the kebabs a tiny bit bland, but this was probably more an issue with Georgian cuisine rather than Resto-Bar Black Star.
Overall, a meal with lots and lots of food and well, even more drinks, came to about $100. True kudos to Resto-Bar Black Star. This ended up not just being the best BBQ restaurant, but also one of, if not the best restaurant in Gori that we were to find.
